Chapter 9 - Ceiling Demo + Electrical

PROGRESS UPDATE

Ah the 80s… great for the shoulder pad industry, but not great for any remodeling nostalgia and that includes square acoustic ceiling tiles. Our painter, who is also in charge of some of our demo, did a great job this week demolishing the handful of rooms that had these old ceiling tiles.

We get it. At the time, the 100 year old plaster ceilings were ancient and this was a cozy, warm, aesthetically pleasing fix. But it’s time to say “mmmm bye bye”.

And while these select ceilings are sitting a little naked and exposed, and before the new Sheetrock goes up, we decided to add in some recessed lighting while we still had the chance. In this rendering, Mike drew up the placement of the recessed lights for our electrician, who will get started any day now. Not much to look at yet, but this progress makes us giddy!

And speaking of giddy, our Nest security cameras have been loads of fun!! If you’d like to see a cool time-lapse of the demo trailer, hop on over to our Instagram (in the Highlights) for the video.

We said goodbye to the ceiling tiles, but definitely not this light!

This old wood strapping is actually quite handy and saving us a lot of work (aka money) so it will stay and the new Sheetrock will be attached to the wood.
